APPs

Survey: Integration of Advanced Practitioner roles in Intensive Care

Dear Colleague,

Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) are non-physician care providers who contribute to the delivery of high-quality medical care. Depending on the healthcare system, APPs include nurses, paramedics, physiotherapists and other non-medical healthcare providers.

APPs are clinical professionals that form part of the multidisciplinary team. They are highly experienced and educated practitioners who have developed their skills and theoretical knowledge to a high standard and are empowered to make high-level clinical decisions to ensure that patients receive timely, personal, and effective care.

In many ICUs worldwide, APPs play a vital role. However, their training, licensure, certification and scope of practice vary between hospitals and countries.

In this short survey, we aim to explore the integration of APPs in routine clinical care in the ICU in order to find out how best to provide support.
