Project background and Purpose

The City of Prince Albert’s current Zoning Bylaw was adopted in 1987.  Although it has been amended several times since then, a comprehensive update of the Zoning Bylaw has not been undertaken.  In January, 2016, City Council adopted a new Official Community Plan (OCP) which provides direction, goals and objectives in a number of areas relevant to zoning including land use, transportation, infrastructure, housing, parks and recreation, public safety, and the environment.  In order to align our zoning regulations with the new OCP, a comprehensive review and update is underway.  A complete revision of the Zoning Bylaw will address a number of issues that have arisen over the last number of years and will also take into account the updates to regulations as required by The Planning and Development Act, 2007.

What is a Zoning Bylaw?

A Zoning Bylaw is a regulatory document that controls the use of land.  It divides land into zones and establishes regulations such as:

-       Uses that are allowed in each zone
-       Allowable lot sizes
-       Building heights
-       Set-backs from property lines
-       Parking requirements
-       Landscaping requirements
-       Billboard and signage regulations
-       Enforcement

Community Feedback

Since the start of the project, an open house and a number of community meetings have been held to obtain feedback from residents and business owners. A new draft Zoning Bylaw is nearing completion which reflects the information received.  Please take the time to complete the following survey and provide your input.  We will be accepting survey responses until November 30th, 2016.  Thank you for your interest and input into this process – your comments are important in helping guide the development of the new Zoning Bylaw.

The survey is 16 questions in length and should take approximately 10 -15 minutes to complete, depending on the complexity of your answers.
