This study involves an anonymous questionnaire known as the Zarit Burden interview and is being conducted by graduate student Anthony Woody of Eastern Washington University, with support from professor and mentor Dr. David Line, as a requirement of an applied research course series. It is designed to measure the level of stress and burnout among family caregivers.  For the purpose of this research, caregivers include any member of a family who provides primary care to a relative through the performance of, or assistance with, activities of daily living (ADL’s), which include, but are not limited to, meal preparation, feeding, toileting, shopping, dressing/grooming and medication management. In this survey, you will be asked to complete the Zarit Burden interview, which is a series of questions about potentially negative experiences that you may experienced in your caregiving role. For example, you will be asked about negative feelings you may have regarding the person to whom you provide care or your feelings of stress/strain. Please be aware that you may skip any questions you are not comfortable answering, and you may opt out of the survey at any time. Your participation will help us to understand more completely the pressures involved in caregiving.

YOU MUST BE AT LEAST 18 YEARS OLD TO PARTICIPATE IN THIS STUDY

Should you decide to participate in this study, be advised that your participation is completely voluntary and all responses are anonymous, as they do not require disclosure of any identifying information. As mentioned earlier, it could be possible that your participation could arouse feelings as you think about your answers. Again, you do not have to answer questions that you find troubling and can stop the survey at any point without penalty. Please be aware that your decision to participate or not participate will have no impact on your connection to Wellspring Family Services or any other service provider with whom you work. At the end of the survey, we will provide a list of helpful resources that you may wish to access for further support and/or information. If you answer any questions in the survey, you are implying your consent to participate. This survey should take around 15 minutes or less to complete.

If you have any questions about the study, please contact the Principal Investigator Anthony Woody via Dr. David Line (dline@ewu.edu or 509-828-1219).
