In October 2019 individuals representing a variety of professions including human services, mental health, physical health, legislation, higher education, public health, law enforcement, youth and older adult-focused initiatives, community-based organizations and more, gathered to discuss suicide prevention in our community.

After reviewing available local data, participants collaboratively identified areas of opportunity for expanded collaborative efforts as 1) Postvention, 2) Coordination of Care, 3) Policy, and 4) Primary Prevention and Root Cause.

The Postvention Workgroup identified that consistent support is necessary for various groups including, but not limited to, loss survivors, attempt survivors, and friends and family members of attempt survivors.  Our first task is to learn from our partners in Jefferson County as to what resource lists and guides exist with the hope of compiling a comprehensive guide for all of our systems to use.

The Suicide Prevention Summit was not intended to be a final product, but rather a launching point.  We look forward to continuing the momentum and discussion in each of these priority areas to push efforts forward and support our community!
