Helping to shape the next generation of Tech Professionals

The University of Waikato (UoW) have asked for the input of ITP members regarding the content of future courses they will be offering to students in relation to Technology and Computer Science.
They intend to offer a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree majoring in Computer Science, with an emphasis on AI technologies starting in 2020. This will be the only one of its kind in New Zealand. To ensure this qualification is industry appropriate they are liaising with ITP and technology businesses to help them shape their approach.
UoW are all too aware that the IT industry and developments in technology are moving rapidly and understand the absolute necessity for graduates to be as prepared as possible for entering this hugely challenging but exciting industry.
One of the ways in which the UoW intend to do this is to supplement the existing core modules of their degree course with micro-credential courses covering new and emerging technologies. This will allow the University to be agile and adaptable in relation to the structure of their degree as new technologies emerge; and enable them to keep up to date and ensure their courses remain relevant and of significant value to both students and the IT industry alike.
We ask that you to take a little of your time to consider and complete the following short questionnaire to support this very important process.

* 1. What Type of Business do you own/work for?

* 7. UoW's new degree structure requires all undergraduate students to complete a work-integrated learning paper as part of their studies. This provides students with an opportunity to apply theory in practice, build 'soft skills' and make valuable industry connections.

Are there any other areas you feel the UoW should address in preparing students to make a successful transition from the academic world to the IT industry?
