Annual 'school costs' Survey (Coventry Citizens Advice) - Autumn 2022

The cost of schooling in Coventry 2022-23.

In September 2021 we asked you to say how much you had spent on school uniform going into the autumn school term. We also asked you to estimate how much you normally spent on all school costs – such as equipment and materials, travel and trips, food and miscellaneous costs.

With the cost-of-living crisis intensifying it is predicted that the impact of a broad range of school costs on household financial pressures will increase this year. For this reason we are asking again for information on the ‘costs of the school day’.

We are also asking specific questions about how you would like school uniform policies to develop, and how you would like Pupil Premiums* received by each school - for each and every pupil eligible for ‘free school meals’ – to be spent.

There are suggestions that Pupil Premiums, worth thousands of pounds to each school, should be used to subsidise school uniform costs. There are other suggestions also.

Please share your views in this 10 question survey. It will not take you more than 10 minutes to complete the survey. All responses will be anonymous.

However, if you want to know more about this survey or our campaigning work in general, contact Coventry Citizens Advice at ehodson@coventry.cab.org.uk  .

Thank you for your support. Please share this survey link with anyone else you think might be willing to share their views.

 Note:
*The Pupil Premium is worth £1,345 per Primary School pupil and £955 per Secondary School pupil.

9.Do you think a school logo on a PE Kit has to be an essential part of every school uniform?
10.Do you feel current school uniform / school costs policies are driven by what schools want, by what parents want or some combination of both?
