Cross Bay Ferry Permanent Service Survey

HMS Ferries, the operator of the Cross Bay Ferry, has worked with local governments to develop a plan for permanent ferry service. We'd like to know if you support this plan.  We also would like your input about future route options.  Your opinion and support can help make ferry service permanent.

Question Title

* 1. What is your home zip code?

Question Title

* 2. Permanent service would start with year-round, regular weeknight and weekend service between downtown Tampa, downtown St. Petersburg and a new terminal in the Big Bend area in South Hillsborough County.  Weekday commuter service would run between South County and MacDill.  This latter service would provide over 8,000 military families with a better commute while taking millions of miles of car travel off our congested roadways each year.  It is included in the plan because all ridership surveys indicate that the MacDill route would have the highest ridership of any option. Other commuter routes would be developed as ferry service matures and demand grows.

HMS Ferries would run this permanent service without local taxpayer operating subsidies.   It would be the only transit system in Florida that would not require such subsidies.   The public investment would be limited to the modest capital cost of four, new fast ferry vessels, docks, terminals and other needed infrastructure improvements.  All facilities would be publicly owned.  The ferries would be similar to the ones used for the Cross Bay Ferry seasonal service.  The capital cost to start this initial service (about $35 million) is less than the cost of widening one mile of  county roadway.  This plan could be in place within 36 months.   What is your opinion about this plan?

Question Title

* 3. We also want to determine the demand for and interest in future routes and service options.  We'd like to know which of these options you would personally use and how often.  In answering these questions, please assume there would be good connecting options between each terminal and major destinations within a mile or two of any terminal.

I would use daily. I would use one or twice a month. I would use a couple of times a year. I would never use this service option.
Commuter and weekday service between Downtown St. Petersburg and Downtown Tampa
Commuter and weekday service between Downtown St. Petersburg and Westshore with express transit connections to Tampa International Airport.
Evening and weekend service between Westshore and downtown St. Petersburg.
Commuter and weekday service between Apollo Beach/South Hillsborough County and St. Petersburg
Evening and weekend service between St. Petersburg, Ana Marie Island and Bradenton.
