Thank you for your interest in applying for Project Play community resources!

This program was developed to better support YOUR community and ensure all children have access to high-quality sport and play experiences. After the application window closes, a member of the Project Play team may reach out to discuss your application in more detail. We will work with selected community hosts to coordinate approved providers and cover agreed-upon program costs. This round of applications will close on November 20th.

Please note that support for Encourage Sports Sampling and Think Small "plays" is intended for smaller projects that can be carried out in the calendar year. Support from Project Play for Community Resource Requests will not exceed the amount of $2,500, with most support not exceeding $1,000.
Support is available for organizations that meet the following criteria:
  • Are a registered 501c3, municipality, or school providing out-of-school-time programs
  • Serve youth of any age ranging from 5-14
  • Provide programs that are financially accessible
  • Able to provide a valid W-9
  • Operate programs in southeast Michigan: Oakland, Wayne, Macomb, St. Clair, Washtenaw, Livingston, and Monroe counties
Support is categorized into four opportunities. These opportunities help communities put Project Play’s 8 Plays, the strategies that guide our regional work to make youth sports more accessible, safe and developmentally appropriate, into action. The four opportunities below directly advance Train All Coaches, Emphasize Prevention, Encourage Sports Sampling, and Think Small “plays.” An organization may apply for more than one:

Train All Coaches
You can select to host a vetted, evidence-based training at your facility from our recommended list of training providers cited below OR suggest a new training opportunity that aligns with Project Play’s mission and goals. Referrals will be considered but are not guaranteed.

Emphasize Prevention
CPR and First Aid certification classes. Hands-only certification is valid for two years after completion.

Encourage Sports Sampling
Receive best practice guides and planning support in hosting a sports sampling activation at your location. Awardees will receive financial support for event enhancements such as food, DJ, marketing, etc. Note that, in many cases, support from Project Play will not cover all event costs, and we suggest pursuing other collaboration opportunities to ensure event success.

Think Small
Refurbish and maintain fields, courts and facilities with gravel, grass seed and professional line painting. We can be flexible with support depending on your space and its need. Help bring spaces to life and encourage play. Projects may include mending fences, robotic field striping and refreshing cement.
Upon approval of support, your organization will be responsible for:
  • A consistent local point person.
  • An appropriate venue or authorized project site.
  • Active local recruitment and promotion. Selected hosts should be prepared to promote trainings and events beyond their own organization when the format and available capacity allow. PPSEMI and each host will jointly determine the intended audience, registration capacity and outreach plan. We ask that each training impact a minimum of 20 attendees.
  • On-site coordination and timely planning.
  • Required permissions and organizational documentation. A valid W-9 is needed to receive any payments from CFSEM. Receipts for expenses related to this project should be requested.
  • Participation in a brief follow-up and evaluation.
PPSEMI Provides:
  • Coordination of approved vendors and services.
  • Payment of agreed-upon direct program costs.
  • A registration link and participant communications, when applicable.
  • Branded outreach and marketing materials.
  • Regional promotion and planning support.
We ask that all organizations receiving support from PPSEMI review the Children’s Bill of Rights in Sports and consider endorsing it on behalf of their organization. More information on endorsement can be found here: Children's Bill of Rights in Sports Endorsement Form.

You may apply for more than one support resource, but you are not required to complete the form fields for the other support resources you are not interested in for this application cycle. Please leave those fields blank.
