At Ontario Shores, we have co-developed a course for caregivers/ parents whose adolescents (aged 12-18) struggle with mental health. This course will follow the Recovery College model of mental health support and will be facilitated by a peer support specialist with lived experience of caregiving for an adolescent with mental health challenges. (For more information regarding the Ontario Shores Recovery College, or to find courses for any caregiver: https://www.ontarioshores.ca/resources-support/ontario-shores-recovery-college)
This course is part of an initiative to expand our Recovery College to reach adolescents and their caregivers. The process used co-production, which means including the voice of individuals who will use the course in helping to develop the course topics. The course will cover topics such as navigating the healthcare system, protecting against your own emotional burnout as a caregiver, and communicating with your adolescent, among many others.
