The user-centered design process includes common elements such as gathering user requirements, developing user profiles, performing task analyses, logical design, prototyping, usability testing, and design iteration. We teach these to students and read and write about them in papers and textbooks. I’m curious to know how regularly each of the process elements is currently performed in industry, government and consulting organizations and who in these organizations performs each of these. This is probably a good thesis or dissertation topic (any grad students who want to work on this?). In the mean time, I’d like to gather a little informal survey data on the topic. If you work (or have worked in the past 3 years) in an internal corporate or government organization or consultancy and are willing to share your experience, I would be grateful if you would complete this survey. All questions are optional.
