Comprehensive Plan Update - Phase 1 Survey

The One Seattle Plan will guide where and how the city grows over the next 20 years and will guide investments in our community to meet current and future needs.

The Office of Planning and Community Development seeks your input throughout this planning process, which will continue through 2024, when the City Council is scheduled to adopt the final plan as required by the state’s Growth Management Act. This survey is an initial opportunity to share your thoughts.

Question Title

* 1. The Comprehensive Plan includes goals and policies on a wide range of topics, from land use to housing to the environment, along with many other topics that address the needs of a growing city over the next 20 years. The policies in the Plan reflect the vision, values, and priorities of Seattle residents. As we update the Comprehensive Plan to address both new and continuing challenges, what are the most important topics you would like to see addressed in our next Comprehensive Plan? (choose up to 4)

Question Title

* 2. The Comprehensive Plan Update will draw upon the perspectives and lived experiences in neighborhoods across the city. We will prioritize underrepresented historically marginalized communities. As the City plans for growth over the next 20 years, what are the most important community needs that the Comprehensive Plan update should address? You may want to consider the needs of people in the neighborhood where you live, work, or the city as a whole.

Question Title

* 3. HOUSING AND DISPLACEMENT
Seattle continues to face a crisis in the availability and affordability of housing, resulting in escalating home prices and rents. Low-income households and communities of color are particularly hard hit with high housing cost burden and risk of eviction, displacement, and homelessness. What types of housing do we most need to add as the city grows? (choose up to 3)

Question Title

* 4. Many residents, organizations, businesses, and communities are finding it difficult to remain in Seattle. The City is committed to including more strategies in the next Comprehensive Plan that help us minimize displacement as we grow. We will include growth strategies that seek to reduce displacement pressures and improve tools to help communities to thrive in place. What types of strategies would you like the City to prioritize in the Plan to make housing more affordable and reduce residential, commercial, and cultural displacement?

Question Title

* 5. CLIMATE CHANGE
Seattle is experiencing significant impacts from climate change (heatwaves, wildfires, rising seas, extreme floods, etc.), and we know these impacts will continue to grow. Seattle's most recent greenhouse gas (ghg) inventory shows that to meet our climate goals, we need to drastically reduce carbon emissions from our two largest sources, vehicles and buildings. Our One Seattle Plan will include strategies that support Seattle’s goal to be carbon neutral by 2050, as well as county, regional and state goals to reduce ghg emissions. What opportunities and strategies to reduce our carbon footprint would you most like to see incorporated into the Comprehensive Plan? (choose up to 3)

Question Title

* 6. What climate impacts have affected you and your community the most so far, and what future climate-related threats are you most concerned about?

Question Title

* 7. YOUR VISION
If our Comprehensive Plan were successful, how would Seattle be different in 20 years?

Question Title

* 8. PARTICIPATION PREFERENCES
How would you prefer to receive information about the Comprehensive Plan Update over the next couple of years? (choose up to 4)
