The AAP’s Screening Technical Assistance & Resource Center (STAR Center) invites practices that provide pediatric care to share their success in implementing a comprehensive process for developmental, maternal depression, and/or social determinants of health screening. Submissions will be reviewed by an expert panel and, if selected, will be displayed on our Web site (aap.org/screening) as a Model Screening Process to assist others in developing and executing their own comprehensive process. A model screening process contains most of the recommended components of a screening process - including a family-centered approach, administration of screenings per AAP guidelines, and a well-developed referral and follow-up system.
For the purposes of this application, a screening process is defined as the method of early identification and intervention for potential risks to a child’s development through ongoing surveillance, routine screening per AAP guidelines, family-centered discussion of results, interpretation, and—when concerns are identified—referral and follow-up.
If your practice or institution would like your screening process to be featured as model, please complete the information below and submit by email to screening@aap.org. If upon reviewing this application you do not feel you have a comprehensive model screening process, but you wish to share an approach related to the screening process that you have found effective, please see our Successful Strategies in Screening application.
