Unfortunately, the runaway situation is only getting worse. A reporter was told by law enforcement that the runaway situation has reached 'epidemic proportion'. Another reported an organization saying for the first time in their history they have had to turn teens away as they were 'at capacity and overextended'. Recently, I heard 2 reports that talked about how the economy has made an even more dramatic impact. One reported a parent kicked their kid out because they 'could not afford them'. Another reported an interview where people were saying not to help kids on the street because it 'enables' them. I want to start this survey to find out who is affected, what affect it has on the child and family and also what can be done to either help or prevent homelessness. You may skip any questions if you prefer not to answer. You may also add feedback and comments to any question. Thanks in advance for your time.

* 1. Did you ever run away from home?

* 2. Besides yourself, do you know anyone who has run away?

* 3. Would you know what to do if your child, or a child you knew ran away?

* 4. Do you think helping a runaway 'enables' them?

* 5. What is your general reaction when you see a homeless teen?

* 6. Have you heard of homelessness being a problem in your area?

* 7. Do you think there's anything you can do to help homeless kids?

* 8. Do you know where to find resource information or material that can aid you if someone is obviously in need but you are unable to help (due to safety reasons, time or whatever)?

* 9. Did you know that there are a reported 1 to 3 million kids living on the streets of America? And, one statistic said '1 in 7 kids between the ages of 10 and 18 will run away at some point.'? Did you also know that the majority of these kids (48%) reported the reason they ran away was abuse from their own family...that 80% of homeless girls reported having been sexually or physically abused? Do statistics like these make you want to help or just annoy you?

* 10. Have you read or would you be interested in reading stories about runaways?
