SCRHA Rental Fraud Survey

SCRHA is conducting a short anonymous survey to better understand rental fraud and whether it is becoming more common. The goal is to gather local data about incidents affecting housing providers. We are also gathering information on current screening practices.

This information may help support future advocacy efforts, media outreach, and member education initiatives. Your participation will help ensure the experiences of housing providers, and the broader rental housing community are represented in ongoing conversations about housing and related public policy.
1.Compared to two years ago, do you believe fraud (application or payment) has become more common?
2.In the last two years, have you suspected any fraud during the application process (such as fake ID documents or fake references)?
3.In the past 12 months, approximately what percentage of rental applications that you reviewed contained information you suspected was false, altered or misleading?
4.In the last two years, have you suspected any fraud in the payment process (such as counterfeit checks or manipulated digital transactions)?
