Senior VP, Administration

MJBizDaily, producer of America’s fastest-growing business trade show as well as the most trusted B2B news publisher for the cannabis and hemp industries, is seeking an SVP Administration to provide strategic oversight for and ensure smooth running of its administrative backbone including finance, legal, HR, IT, customer service and office management. Based in our Denver-area HQ, this position reports directly to the CEO and coordinates closely with the President (who oversees all products as well as sales and marketing). They will also coordinate with the VP External Relations and have access to an executive assistant supporting the top management team. 

This is a new position for the business which has been privately-held, profitable and focused on fast-yet-sustainable growth for its employees and product lines since 2011. 

Initially, the SVP Admin’s direct reports will include the VP Finance, IT Director, Talent Director (to be hired), customer service manager and office manager, plus they will and oversee external law firms and TriNet, our PEO service. 

Their responsibilities will include:
  • Financial oversight, including oversight of treasury management, corporate taxes, insurance, the company-wide budgeting process, audits and M&As.
  • HR leadership including recruitment, benefits and legal for 65 employees globally (anticipated to grow to 100 within 18 months), including decisions regarding our current PEO service provider.
  • Legal oversight, including trademarks and copyrights as well as contracts and procedures for all departments.
  • Strategic management of the physical plant needs of a quickly-growing company, including forecasting office space needs and leading expansion initiatives, as well as supervising an office manager.
  • High-level leadership and support for IT and Customer Service departments.
  • Advising the CEO and President on the needs and structure of the organization as it grows from a formerly horizontal structure to more of a hierarchical and specialized one, and as its product lines expand rapidly via both M&As and internal launches.
The position requires an MBA and at least a decade’s worth of experience in senior management positions at fast-growing organizations. Other relevant experience includes working for a privately-held company, managing during re-orgs, leading finance, legal and transition teams for successful M&As, mentoring executives who are new to their roles, and rolling up your sleeves to handle things when there’s no one else around to do them.

We do not require industry-specific experience for either cannabis or trade shows/publishing, however international business experience is a significant plus.
