Help Us Build Regional Evidence

Insurance affordability and access remain significant issues for households, businesses and strata communities across Tropical North Queensland.

Since Regional Development Australia Tropical North (RDATN) last conducted this survey in 2025, cost-of-living and business operating pressures have continued to rise. In Tropical North Queensland, these pressures can be compounded by distance, freight and fuel costs, as well as our exposure to cyclones, flooding and other natural hazards.

Insurance therefore affects more than household and business budgets. It can influence property maintenance, business continuity, disaster preparedness and recovery, and confidence to invest in our region.

We are repeating the survey to understand how insurance affordability and access may have changed and what homeowners, landlords, strata communities and business owners are experiencing now. Building this evidence supports place-based decision-making and the region’s broader priorities for liveability, resilience and sustainable economic growth, consistent with the Tropical North Queensland Economic Development Strategy (TEDS) and the Regional Investment Framework (RIF).

The 2025 survey established a baseline understanding of insurance affordability and access across the region. Its findings contributed to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission’s monitoring of the Cyclone Reinsurance Pool and informed broader consideration of insurance conditions across northern Australia.

Participation is voluntary and anonymous. Responses will be aggregated and reported as general findings for Tropical North Queensland, without identifying any individual or organisation.

Regional Development Australia Tropical North will publish and circulate a summary of the findings after the survey has closed.

The survey should take approximately 5 to 10 minutes to complete. Responses would be appreciated by close of business, Friday 2 October 2026.
