Block Party Interest Form

National Night Out began in 1984 and was a grass-roots effort to help people feel safe in their own neighborhoods while having fun.  It is a community-oriented event that is most definitely a part of the current national narrative on policing!

This year we would like to ask neighborhoods to sign up to host their own NNO events, block by block (or several blocks together – it’s your neighborhood).  Due to the number of limited slots available, winners will be chosen at random to receive a host of fun items needed to create your very own event – sort of a “Block Party in a Bin”.  We will provide:

  • Approved City Street Closure Permit
  • Sidewalk chalk
  • Bubbles
  • Kit to create either carnival toss games or an obstacle course
  • Glow sticks and more.

Potential game ideas include:

Make Your Own Obstacle Course – jump through the hopscotch, throw the bean bags into the bucket, limbo under the jump rope, jump on one leg through hula hoops.
Chalk Art Competition – every family can participate and draw their own special chalk art design or…create a group art spectacular!
Hopscotch Champion – who is the hopscotch champion on your block?
Balloon Toss – It’s all Up in the Air!

Other options for your block include:
  • Cheese & Wine Tasting
  • Swing Jazz Dance Lessons (bring your own partner)
  • Karaoke – Does someone in your neighborhood have a karaoke machine?  Maybe stage your own version of The Voice!
Finally, keep your eyes and ears open for a special SMPD ice cream truck that will drive through the neighborhoods on the evening of NNO (Tuesday, October 5th).

Make sure to throw your name (and block) in the hat!

Note: We encourage all participants to follow LA County Department of Public Health’s COVID-19 protocols. For more information visit http://publichealth.lacounty.gov/media/Coronavirus/
