State of the Nation 2026 Survey:
Mental Health, Addiction & Complex Needs in Wales

Introduction
Thank you for taking part in Adferiad’s State of the Nation 2026 survey. This survey is about mental health, addiction, and related support in Wales - what’s working, what isn’t, and what needs to change. We want to hear directly from people about their experiences and views so that real voices shape future decisions. Your experiences matter, and your answers will help influence policy, services, and public debate in Wales.

What is the purpose of this survey?
The purpose of this survey is to build a clear picture of how people in Wales are experiencing mental health and addiction support today. We are using the findings to:
  • Understand where people are struggling to access help
  • Highlight what good support looks like
  • Identify gaps in services and systems
  • Strengthen the evidence behind Adferiad’s calls for change
The results will feed into a public ‘State of the Nation’ report, which will be shared with decision-makers, partners, and the wider public at our State of the Nation Conference in October 2026.

Who can take part?
Anyone living in Wales can take part. You do not need to be an Adferiad service user. We welcome responses from:
  • People with lived experience of mental health issues
  • People with lived experience of addiction or substance use
  • Family members and carers of people with mental health/addiction issues
  • Professionals working in healthcare, social care, the third sector, housing, or justice services
  • Members of the public
You can answer based on your own experience, what you’ve observed, or what you believe needs to change. Please note that some questions are only relevant to certain people. If a question does not apply to you or to your experience, please select "Not Applicable" and move on to the next question.

How will my answers be used?
Your responses will be combined with others and analysed as a group. Your responses may also be used to produce statistics, themes, and anonymised quotes and will be included in future Adferiad reports, briefings, and public communications. Please note that all responses will be anonymised.
