Computer Information Systems
Students apply problem-solving skills to real-life situations through word processing, spreadsheets, databases, multimedia presentations, and integrated software activities. Students work individually and in groups to explore computer concepts, operating systems, networks, telecommunications, emerging technologies, and career opportunities related to the information technology field.
Advanced Computer Information Systems
Students apply problem-solving skills to real-life situations through advanced integrated software applications, including printed, electronic, and web publications. Students work individually and in groups to explore advanced computer maintenance activities, website development, programming, networking, emerging technology, and employability skills. Students enhance computer information technology skills through the use of advanced integrated applications to create documents, publications, and websites including complex graphs, customized reports, and multimedia presentations. In addition to implementing programming and executing network activities, students also will practice the maintenance, management, and troubleshooting of systems; legal and ethical issues are explored; preparation is given for industry certifications; and employability skills are developed.
Programming
Students in the Programming course explore programming concepts, use algorithmic procedures, implement programming procedures with one or more standard languages, and master programming fundamentals. Coding is used throughout the course. Graphical user interfaces may be used as students design and develop interactive multimedia applications, including game 3 programs. In addition, students employ hypertext markup language (HTML) or JavaScript to create web pages. Students develop their employability skills through a variety of activities. Recommended prerequisite(s): Keyboarding course(s) or teacher-approved demonstration and documentation of touch keyboarding skills and Information Technology Fundamentals 6670
Advanced Programming
Building on their foundation of programming skills, Advanced Programming students use object oriented programming to develop database applications, interactive multimedia applications including game applications, mobile applications, and web applications. Students continue to develop their employability skills as they research pathways for continuing education and careers in the information technology industry and engage in various career-building activities.
Cybersecurity Fundamentals
Cybersecurity affects every individual, organization, and nation. This course focuses on the evolving and pervasive technological environment with an emphasis on securing personal, organizational, and national information. Students will be introduced to the principles of cybersecurity, explore emerging technologies, examine threats and protective measures, and investigate the diverse high-skill, high-wage, and high-demand career opportunities in the field of cybersecurity.
Cybersecurity Systems Technology
Students enter the world of computer technology and gain practical experience in assembling a computer system. Students will install, configure, and secure various operating systems. Students will troubleshoot computers and peripherals and use system tools and diagnostic software. They develop skills in computer networking and resource sharing. In addition, students explore the relationships between internal and external computer components. Upon successful completion of the course, students may qualify to take the CompTIA A+ certification exam.
Cybersecurity Systems Tech II
This advanced course provides students with training in procedures for optimizing and troubleshooting concepts for computer systems, subsystems, and networks. Students explore the following:
• Basic network design and connectivity 3
• Network documentation
• Network limitations and weaknesses
• Network security, standards and protocols
Students will gain a basic understanding of emerging technologies including unified communications, mobile, cloud, and virtualization technologies. The course prepares students for postsecondary education and training and a successful career in information technology. Upon successful completion of the course, students may qualify to take CompTIA’s A+ and Network+ certification exams.
Cybersecurity in Manufacturing
This course will emphasize manufacturing systems, safety, materials, production, business concepts, and the manufacturing process. Students will learn the principles of cybersecurity, explore emerging technologies, and examine threats and protective measures. Students will participate in enterprise team activities to create products that demonstrate elements of business and manufacturing while demonstrating cybersecurity concepts and policies, including risk management.
Design Multimedia Web Technologies
Students develop proficiency in designing and creating graphic design projects, multimedia presentations/projects, and websites, using industry-standard application software. Students apply principles of layout and design in completing projects. Students create portfolios that include a résumé, certifications earned, and a variety of print, multimedia, and website projects produced in the course.
Advanced Design Multimedia Web Technologies
Students develop advanced skills for creating digital media projects. Students work with cutting-edge hardware and software, applying skills to real-world projects.
IT Fundamentals
Information Technology Fundamentals introduces the essential technical and professional skills required for students to pursue programs leading to professional careers and information technology certifications. The course introduces skills related to digital technology, digital applications, maintenance/upgrading/troubleshooting, and networking fundamentals. Students also explore ethical issues related to computers and Internet technology and examine web page and game design. Recommended prerequisite(s): Keyboarding course(s) or teacher-approved demonstration and documentation of touch keyboarding skills
Video and Media Technology
This course offers students a hands-on opportunity to study all aspects of video and media production. Students will conceptualize, plan, and contribute through all production phases: preproduction, production, and postproduction. In addition, students will practice various methods of gathering and recording information and creating novel content to create a variety of video and media productions while operating studio editing software and video and audio equipment.
Digital Visualization
Students gain experiences related to computer animation by using graphics and design concepts. Students solve problems involving 3-D object manipulation, storyboarding, texturing/mapping, lighting concepts, and environmental geometry. Students create a variety of animations that reflect real-world applications and are introduced to interactive and 3-D animation software. Production of a portfolio showcasing examples of original student work is included.
Communication Systems
Communication Systems provides experiences in the fields of imaging technology, graphic production, video and media, technical design, and various modes of communicating information through the use of data. Students develop critical-thinking and problem-solving skills using the universal systems model. Students also learn about the impact of communication on society and potential career fields relating to communications.
Imaging Technology
Students in Imaging Technology apply the principles of design in the creation of images. Students explore the development of imaging as a communication medium and its evolution into the digital realm. Image-editing software allows students to enhance images and develop a portfolio. Investigation focuses on career exploration and the application of photographic and imaging technology across various industries
Database Management and Design
This course includes database design and Structured Query Language (SQL) programming. Students study database fundamentals, including database development, modeling, design, and normalization. In addition, students are introduced to database programming with SQL. Students gain the skills and knowledge needed to use features of database software and programming to manage and control access to data. Students will prepare for the first of two certification exams.
