THE FUTURE OF CONSERVATION

Thank you for your time in responding to this survey.

Blue Hill Heritage Trust is developing a new long-range conservation plan and is seeking community input on land conservation and BHHT’s role on the Blue Hill Peninsula. This is a follow-up to a survey that we conducted, in 2015, as part of our last overall strategic plan.

We welcome your feedback and suggestions to help assess the Trust’s work, as it is today and as we develop priorities for the future.

This questionnaire will take approximately 10-15 minutes to complete. As a token of our appreciation we invite you to enter to win a $200 gift certificate to DeepWater Brewing Company. To enter, follow the link that will be emailed to you after completing the survey.

All individual survey responses are anonymous and will be kept separate from contest entry information.

Definitions:

Conservation for BHHT and for the purposes of this survey comprises the following:

1.      “Land protection” means the protection of property from commercial and industrial development, in perpetuity, for ecological and public benefit. Protection may or may not allow agriculture, sustainable forestry, or other land uses depending on the property.

2.      “Stewardship” is the work of caring for the land, of leaving it as good or better than when it was acquired by the Trust. It also means meeting our legal obligations and carrying out best practices as a land trust. This includes writing natural resource inventories, monitoring boundaries, and maintaining trails. It also includes habitat restoration and resource protection. Finally, stewardship includes engaging people with environmental education and land-use practice.

3.      “Community Outreach” is any Trust activity which engages the public with its property and its stewardship work, or with conservation, education, or resource use and protection in general.

There is significant overlap between these categories because conservation is a multifaceted endeavor.
