Hello - Chris P. Frey here, ardent homebrewer here in the state of Michigan. I am looking for your support that will allow Michigan Homebrew clubs to meet in Michigan Microbreweries and Brew Pubs.
State Representative Douglas Geiss has reintroduced a bill that would modify the Michigan liquor control code of 1998 by adding the following language (additional language defining a Homebrewer is also in the bill's language):
(3) This section does not PROHIBIT ANY of the following: (D) A MICRO BREWER OR BREW PUB FROM ALLOWING THE SAMPLING AND CONSUMPTION ON THE LICENSED PREMISE OF BEER PRODUCED BY 1 OR MORE HOME BREWERS AT A MEETING OF HOME BREWERS, OR A CLUB COMPOSED PRIMARILY OF HOME BREWERS, UNDER THE FOLLOWING CIRCUMSTANCES (i) THE SAMPLING OR CONSUMPTION IS FOR THE PURPOSE OF EXHIBITIONS OR COMPETITIONS INVOLVING HOME BREWERS. (ii) THE BEER IS SERVED IN PORTIONS NOT TO EXCEED 6 OUNCES. (iii) NO SALE OF BEER IS MADE TO MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL PUBLIC. (iv) THE PARTICIPANTS OTHERWISE COMPLY WITH APPLICABLE STATE AND FEDERAL LAW AND APPLICABLE REGULATORY PROVISIONS OF THIS ACT AND RULES ADOPTED BY THE COMMISSION UNDER THIS ACT.
You can read the entire bill at https://legislature.mi.gov/(S(etew3piekzce2ezn4nsf2p55))/mileg.aspx?page=GetObject&objectName=2011-HB-4061
Please indicate whether you support this bill, and free to pass this survey on to other Michigan homebrew clubs, microbreweries, brew pubs, homebrew supply shops and other Michigan supporters of homebrewing as well.
Also, please consider sending an email of your support of this change to Douglasgeiss@house.mi.gov indicating why you support this bill, and he will share your responses with Lansing.
