Welcome to the Gujarat English Language Development Project for Primary teachers (GELDP) Teacher Educator selection!

The GCERT, Unicef and British Council India are launching a two year primary teacher development programme. The aim of this project is to improve the quality of English language teaching in primary schools in two districts in Gujarat: Amreli and Mehasana.

As part of this programme, we are looking to select and train a cadre of enthusiastic and experienced teachers from these two districts to become GELDP Teacher Educators. Teacher Educators will receive training and support from the British Council and will play a key role in supporting primary teachers by delivering training and setting up and facilitating Teacher Activity Groups (TAGs) - semi-formal structured meetings for teachers where they can practice English, discuss their teaching practice, share and learn new teaching ideas, and make action plans to support their professional development.

What does a Teacher Educator have to do?

As a Teacher Educator on this project, you will be working for the Government of Gujarat as part of GELDP.

A core part of GELPD is to build the English language skills, confidence and knowledge of primary school teachers teaching Standards 6-8 and familiarise them with learning-centred classroom approaches which they can implement in their lessons. This will be done through a combination of training workshops and the establishment of monthly TAGs. Primary teachers will attend three blocks of training over two years (one block in the first year of GELDP and two in the second). In the second year, teachers will also attend monthly TAG meetings that will be facilitated by Teacher Educators.

Teacher Educators will be responsible for:
·   delivering three blocks of training to teachers over two years (each block will be five days)
·  setting up and facilitating TAGs with the support of education officials in the district.
·  setting up and facilitating discussions on WhatsApp groups for teachers who attend training and TAGs
·   sending regular online reports to track the progress of training and TAGs and the impact on teachers and their learners.

To do this, Teacher Educators will receive extensive online and face-to-face training and support from the British Council.

What support will you receive?

If you are selected to be a GELDP Teacher Educator you will receive:

·  Fourteen days of face-to-face training in Year 1 and Year 2 (total of 28 days)

·  Ongoing support throughout the project from the British Council through WhatsApp, Facebook and other digital platforms

·  A 30-hour British Council self-access online language development course to improve your own English language in Year 2.

·  A British Council moderated and certified online course on teaching methodology in Year 2.

This is a great development opportunity for you to:

·   improve your own English language and training skills
·   participate in online courses provided by the British Council
·   get involved in teacher training
·   contribute to building the quality of English teaching in your district.
