Using diagnostic screening and common assessment tools as a tool for
Professional Development around content knowledge and instructional practice

MN Math Leaders Networking Meetings are sponsored by the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) and MN Math Leaders, an affiliate of the Minnesota Council of Teachers of Mathematics (MCTM).

The 2017-18 MN Math Leader’s Networking sessions build upon the work of Tim Kanold’s sessions titled Inspiring Students to Learn Mathematics: Leading and Sustaining a Coherent Vision for Mathematics Teaching and Learning. We will use the book "Beyond the Common Core:  A Handbook for Mathematics in a PLC at Work™, Leader’s Guide," By Timothy D. Kanold & Matthew R. Larson (Solution Tree, 2015). It is highly recommended that you purchase this book as it will be referred to in the networking sessions.

A common challenge for math leaders, particularly in the elementary grades, is the need to develop teachers' understanding of the developmental trajectories for important concepts like place value and multiplicative thinking in order to inform stronger instructional practices.  This session will highlight a set of practices, processes and tools that we are using in Richfield to move teacher understanding and practice around developmental trajectories.
