Tihe mauri ora!
Kei aku taitai huanga o Te Arawa waka,
Ko tēnei te reo o Te Tatau o Te Arawa e mihi ake nei,
Tēnā koutou, tēnā koutou, tēnā tātau katoa.

Te Tatau o Te Arawa has penned a submission regarding the Rotorua District Council (representation arrangements) Bill that can viewed in full here.
We are supporting the Bill and have added three key recommendations.
We see it as a rare opportunity for us to lobby for better and fairer participation for our whenua Māori blocks, so that their vote counts in local elections too.  In addition we want to protect Māori interests so that if a Rural Ward be introduced that the total number of Council seats remain at ten (plus the Mayor) so that the voice of Māori isn’t watered down. And we want Māori representation on any community boards created under the Bill.

We urge our people to have their say by the 20th of April and hope our hapū, iwi and land trusts consider supporting Te Tatau’s submission.

Endorsement of our submission closes Tuesday 19th April 11.59pm
