Solid Waste Carts

Starting in 2026, the City of Falls Church will offer residents in townhomes and single-family-homes, who are current curbside customers, an Organics Cart in addition to a Trash Cart and a Recycle Cart.

Please read carefully the information below.
  • No Separate Fee: The new yellow Organics Cart will be part of the solid waste fee that includes trash and recycling services.
  • Timeframe: New Carts for Organics will be ordered in November 2025. Households can expect the arrival of carts to take place starting in Spring 2026. Delivery schedule will be announced this winter through the City's website, social media, and the weekly Falls Church Focus e-newsletter.
  • Organics Cart: Organic waste including food/ kitchen scraps and yard waste (grass, branches, weeds) are all acceptable items households can place in new Organics Cart which will "Return to Earth".
  • Cart Size: Your Organics Cart will be the same size as your current gray Trash Cart. If households prefer a different size, they can make that selection on this form. Households that participate in the orange sticker program will receive a 35-gallon Organics Cart unless they opt-out through this form.
  • Organics Cart Opt-Out: Households can opt-out of the Organics Cart on this form.
Further Details:
Until midnight on Friday, October 31, 2025 households can use this form to specify the size of the new Organics Cart or opt-out of the Organics Cart and service.
  • Opting-out of the Organics Cart does not impact household solid waste fees.
  • This new Organics Cart is both a replacement for the Compost Crew service and an expansion of service to more residents across the City.
  • Residents of townhomes and single-family homes who do not fill out this form will receive a Organics Cart that is the same size as their current gray Trash Cart.
Compost Crew Subscribers:
Once the new Organics Cart is deployed to households, the City will no longer subsidize Compost Crew subscribers. If subscribers are interested in continuing this program instead of using the City issued Organics Cart, they will need to contact Compost Crew directly. If households choose to continue with Compost Crew, they may opt-out from receiving the new Organics Cart.
