The CT Underage Nicotine Prevention and Cannabis Education Program coordinators are raising awareness of the eco-consequences of nicotine. Disposable e-cigarettes (vapes) contain hazardous waste, lithium-ion batteries and many are completely contained in plastic thus making them impossible to dispose of properly. Of most concern is the potential fire hazard of lithium-ion batteries. We recognize that schools are at times collecting these products from students and finding nicotine product waste on their campus grounds.
This survey will help us assess the impact and needs of school districts in CT and inform the creation of supportive resources for safe disposal. The data gathered from this survey will allow us to understand the extent of the issues you experience within your school communities and how we can keep you and your students safe. If you are unsure of the answers to these questions, please consider consulting with the school nurse, counseling office, and maintenance departments. Multiple responses per district will be accepted and welcomed.
