BE NYC, housed under The Department of Small Business Services (SBS), it is a groundbreaking initiative city to help create equity of opportunity by advancing Black entrepreneurship. The BE Mentorship Program is the New York City’s inaugural business mentorship programs for Black entrepreneurs.
BE NYC and SBS are looking for local business owners to mentor current and aspiring Black entrepreneurs. Please help us keep the promise of economic opportunity alive for black New Yorkers by donating your time as a mentor for our new BE NYC Mentorship Program.

Mentors should meet all the following required qualifications and at least 3 preferred qualifications.
Commitment
-From January to June 2021 (6 months commitment) you will provide:
-At least four 2-hour mentor sessions open to the public OR
-At least four 2-hour cohort-based mentor sessions, where you will be mentoring the same group of entrepreneurs

Required Qualifications:
-A founder (with equity) or an owner of a successful business that is currently operating in NYC who identifies as Black.
-A resident of NYC or owner of a NYC M/WBE certified firm
-Willing to volunteer their time without payment or an ulterior business development goal
-A resident of NYC or owner of a NYC M/WBE certified firm

Preferred Qualifications:
-Reflects NYC’s diversity of thought, experience, culture, identity, or background
-Has demonstrated a commitment to community service and small business support services
-Has previous experience as a mentor and/or mentee
-Is a proven connector; either has established or is part of an established network
-Proficient in English and one or more of the following languages commonly spoken in black and brown communities: Arabic, Ibo, Kru, French, French Creole, Somali, Spanish, Portuguese, Mande, and Yoruba
-Has demonstrated a commitment to community service and small business support services
-Has previous experience as a mentor and/or mentee
-Is a proven connector; either has established or is part of an established network
