Why:
I appreciate bell hooks, Audre Lorde and ‘em as much as the next person. But they do not and cannot have the monopoly on inspiration for today’s gender liberation warriors. And we know the face of feminism is far more diverse than the same names and faces that keep getting traction. Indeed, many of you are doing incredible work that more people should know about.

What:
I’m compiling quotes from people of all backgrounds who identify as feminist (or at least are against patriarchy even if they don’t necessarily describe themselves as feminists for certain reasons.) The quotes themselves don’t have to do with feminism or related themes. They can be funny or serious, focused on a specific issue or speak to a broader sentiment, already published elsewhere or something that you’re known for saying. I'll be organizing and designing them into an ebook that will be available for download at no cost for whoever wants it from my website.

Who:
My name is Sofia Quintero, and I’m the creator of socially conscious entertainment and personal development content for the feminist community. I’m most known for writing commercial fiction (most notably "feminist hip-hop noir" under the pen name Black Artemis), conducting popular media literacy workshops using films like Hustle and Flow and Girlfight, and creating an award-winning nonprofit for young women of color. I’m easy to find in cyberspace. Just Google me or go directly to my website www.sofiaquintero.com.

When:
Please submit your quote no later than December 15, 2013. You can submit up to three on one form, and only one form per person. None of the quotes should be more than 50 words. The shorter the better though. I welcome quotes in different languages, but you must provide an English translation of your own creation. You're responsible for assuring the accuracy of your spelling, grammar, syntax, etc. of your translation.

How:
You can submit your quote by completing the following form. When you complete and send this form you are stating that all the quotes you submit are yours and only yours so no one else can claim that you or I are violating his or her copyrights by using it. You also recognize that I retain the right to not use any of the quotes, and that if I do choose to include a quote of yours in the compilation, you will be asked to sign a legal agreement giving me permission to use it with full attribution and without compensation. This is a labor of love project for me, and fair use laws allow me to quote people within certain limits for educational purposes without first seeking permission or paying them, especially since the final product will not be for sale. That said, I want the folks who are mentioned in this compilation to want to be a part of it.

If after reading all that, you're one of those people, by all means, proceed!

* 1. Name

* 2. Email:

* 3. Title/Occupation/Vocation. Please choose one to three words to describe how you would like to be billed e.g. writer, activist, sociologist, entrepreneur. I know we all wear many hats that are equally important to us and matter to the world, but please stick to the word limit.

* 4. Background (optional): Because I'm striving for diversity of all kinds in this collection, please include anything you would like me to know about you with respect to the wide range of social identities that folks can claim. These include but not limited to race, ethnicity, national origin, language, ability, gender identity, sexual orientation, education, occupation, etc. You don't have to tell me everything - just what's salient to you. And none of this will be revealed with my first seeking your permission.

* 5. Quote #1: Please type your quote here. If it's in a language other than English, please provide a translation. If this quote can be found anywhere else, please provide a complete citation and/or links.

Quotes from published material as well as verbal presentations for which there are videos online ARE WELCOMED AND ENCOURAGED. Please DO promote your book, website, blog, etc. Did you drop a gem at a conference on a panel or during a keynote, and there's a YouTube video of it? Include the link. Was the quote part of an interview in print or video? Link, link, link! I want people to know where else they can find your words of wisdom and learn about you and your work. THAT'S THE POINT OF THIS INITIATIVE.

* 6. Quote #2: Please type your quote here. If it's in a language other than English, please provide a translation. If this quote can be found anywhere else, please provide a complete citation and/or links. Quotes from published material as well as verbal presentations for which there are videos online are welcomed.

* 7. Quote #3: Please type your quote here. If it's in a language other than English, please provide a translation. If this quote can be found anywhere else, please provide a complete citation and/or links. Quotes from published material as well as verbal presentations for which there are videos online are welcomed.

* 8. Is there anything you would like me to know about you or your submission(s) e.g. context for understanding the quote. Do you have any questions for me? If not, just write, "No."

* 9. You're almost done. I just need to be sure that you understand the parameters of this project before you submit your answers. If you press send, again, you are acknowledging the following

1. The quotes you have submitted for consideration are yours and only yours.

2. You take responsibility for the accurate translation of any quotes submitted that are not in English.

3. If one of your quotes is included in the project, you will be asked to sign a legal agreement. (Of course, should that time come, you don't have to sign anything. At this point, you're just recognizing that you were informed that this is a step you'll have to take if you'd like your quote to be used.)

4. If quotes have been documented elsewhere, you have provided citations and links.

5. Since the final product will not to be for sale, you accept that there's no compensation for the inclusion of your quote.

6. Submitting your quotes doesn't guarantee that any of them will be used in the final product.

By selecting "Yes," below you are saying, "OK, Sofia, I've read the above, I agree to all of it, and I would like you to consider including one of my quotes for inclusion in this project."
