Parents Against Hate (PAH) is initiated by concerned Turkish American parents in collaboration with the Association of Turkish Americans of Southern California (ATASC). Parents Against Hate aims to amplify the voice of the Turkic community and reverse LAUSD’s decision to declare April 24th as a school holiday.

Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD), the 2nd largest public-school district in the U.S., recently passed a resolution to mark April 24th as a school holiday in remembrance of the Armenian Genocide. This decision may also set a precedent for other school districts across the U.S.

Over the years, children and adults of Turkic origin have been victims of racially motivated hate across the U.S. This holiday will pave the way to increasingly subject Turkic children and adults to discrimination, intimidation, identity suppression, and bullying. The Turkic American community is a minority and outnumbered by the Armenian community, specifically in Los Angeles area.

This school holiday will have undesirable long-term effects on the Turkic American community of all ages. Over 600,000 students attend LAUSD annually. These kids and their families will start to observe April 24th as Armenian Genocide holiday in 2022. The so-called genocide story will thus be shared not just among Armenians but among all LAUSD families and their network as well.

Perhaps you may or may not have children. Your children may or may not be attending LAUSD. You or your family may or may not have been a victim of bullying, of discrimination, or of hate speech due to your Turkic origin. Regardless, we – members of the Turkic American community – need to stand together more than ever to protect our children, the youth, and the victimized members of our community.

The data collected through this 8-minute short survey will be aggregated. Personal information will be kept strictly confidential and will not be shared with 3rd parties. The survey will enable us to show LAUSD board members statistics and gather your valuable opinions.

If we act together, and with conviction, we can get our voice heard and explain our side of the story.

Thank you in advance for supporting your community!
