Hazard Mitigation Survey

The federal government requires all states and local governments to have hazard mitigation plans approved by FEMA that are consistent with the Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000 for a jurisdiction to qualify for Federal Hazard Mitigation Grant Funds. Mitigation planning is the process of identifying hazards to which jurisdiction are at risk as well as development of actions that will reduce or prevent damages from those hazards.

A planning committee comprised of representatives from Wayne County, their incorporated cities, public school districts, and other stakeholders are currently developing the Wayne County Hazard Mitigation Plan. The focus of the planning committee is to reduce the vulnerability of people and property in the planning area to the impacts of hazards and to remain eligible for mitigation funding programs from FEMA.

One of the key components of a hazard mitigation plan is public input during the planning process. The committee is seeking your input on the hazards your community faces as well as your opinions on the types of activities that should be considered to reduce future impacts.
