Section I: Introduction

Project Background

The Partnership on Sustainable, Low Carbon Transport (SLoCaT) promotes the integration of sustainable transport in global policies on sustainable development and climate change and leverages action and ambition in the implementation of the global policies. Under its Urban Strategy, SLoCaT supports delivery of the urban mobility elements of the Sustainable Development Goals (e.g. Target 11.2), the Paris Agreement (mitigation/adaptation targets) and transport elements of the New Urban Agenda (e.g. road safety, air quality).

This is to be accomplished by reinforcing existing, active urban networks´ capacity to work on urban mobility and by expanding geographic coverage of city networking activities on urban mobility to more countries and cities. Our urban strategy aims to develop long term change by strengthening existing city networks (who may not focus on transport (e.g. planning, health, air quality etc.) to work on transport and mobility issues.

A comprehensive global database on existing national and international city networks is currently being developed as an essential first step in identifying potential new partners to work on urban mobility.

This first stage of the database development is directly supported by projects with the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB), Agence Française de Développement (AFD), Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), the Transformative Urban Mobility Initiative (TUMI), and ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability. Knowledge of City Networks operating in their regions will help our partners design their activities, contact cities and identify dissemination and multiplier organisations - in order to scale up action on urban mobility in cities across the developing world.

Purpose of the survey

This survey targets respondents who are professionals from international or national initiatives that work with a network of local authorities and city governments.

You have been invited to participate in this survey as your network/ initiative has been identified as one of the city networks of interest. We will ask you some questions regarding the background of your city network/ initiative, activity priorities, and interest in working more on urban mobility.

The survey will take about 10 minutes to complete.

Following the survey – we will follow up with networks that have an interest to work more on urban mobility issues.

If you have any question, please contact Mark Major (mark.major@slocatpartnership.org) and Alice Yiu (alice.yiu@slocatpartnership.org).
