Background:
The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends screening, brief intervention, and referral to treatment (SBIRT) to prevent and address alcohol or other substance use in youth, 11 – 25 years old. Screening means asking validated questions about alcohol or other substance use. A brief intervention is a short conversation to provide feedback, enhance motivation to change, and plan next steps with the young person. A referral to treatment is connecting youth with additional care when they are at a higher risk of developing an alcohol or other substance use disorder.

Organization:
Peer Assistance Services, Inc., Colorado SBIRT Advisory Council, and NORC at the University of Chicago invite you to participate in a short survey. Your voice on youth substance use prevention is important and this is why we are reaching out to you to encourage your participation.

Purpose:
Your response will help to:

1. Assess how Colorado health professionals approach youth alcohol and other substance use prevention in their practice settings, including the use of SBIRT.

2. Identify opportunities to support SBIRT implementation with youth by offering training, technical assistance, and tools to health professionals in Colorado.

Eligibility:
We are especially seeking the perspectives of frontline health professionals serving youth, 11 – 25 years old, in any type of setting in Colorado.

Please respond to the survey as an individual (not on behalf of your organization). If you are not a health professional who manages and coordinates the care of youth in Colorado, but you know someone who is, we invite you to forward the email you received about the survey that includes the survey link. Please refrain from sharing the survey link through social media and only share with a closed group.

Time estimated to complete:
This survey should take approximately 10 minutes to complete. Please complete the survey at a single point in time to avoid losing any responses.

Confidentiality:
Your responses will be confidential. Your information will not be shared with any other organizations. Your participation is completely voluntary. You may stop your participation at any time. There are no consequences for you if you want to stop.

Incentive for Participation:
Participants who complete the survey will be entered into a drawing for a $50 Amazon e-gift card. Drawings end 3/3/2023. Responses received after that will not be entered into a drawing.
