1. Antimicrobial resistance and stewardship in undergraduate curricula

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is an important public health problem. The UK 5 year AMR strategy lists optimising prescribing practice through implementation of antimicrobial stewardship programmes and improving professional education and training as key areas for action.

As part of Health Education England's (HEE's) contribution to the UK AMR Strategy and and to meet objectives within its' mandate, HEE is seeking to understand how the antimicrobial prescribing and stewardship competencies, as set out by Public Health England and the Department of Health’s Expert Advisory Committee on Antimicrobial Resistance and Healthcare Acquired Infection are being embedded into the undergraduate curricula of health care students. We invite you to participate in this gap analysis/self assessment survey.

As part of this work we will be developing a freely accessible resource, signposting to educational resources on antimicrobial prescribing, resistance and stewardship which support the learning outcomes of the competencies.

Please could you complete the survey below and in addition, let us know of any resources or examples of best practice that we could sign post to others to improve education in this area. In some situations, it may be more appropriate for individual programme leads to respond.

The survey can be completed separately for each of the courses listed (medicine, adult nursing, dentistry, pharmacy, optometry and independent prescribing courses) or a collated response returned.

Any publications from the survey will be fully anonymised.
