General information

Models have been used widely to represent marine socio-ecological systems, and to answer questions on the role of fishing in shaping ecological communities and contributing to societal benefits from the oceans. The outcome of these studies largely depends on the structure and assumptions underlying the model, including those related to the representation of fishing. For instance, a range of economic and social factors (e.g. profits, traditions and cultural norms) can determine fishing patterns in the real world, and hence can be used to represent fishing dynamics in models. In this survey, we seek to understand what the key socio-economic factors are that determine fishing patterns and which of these factors are important to include in models. We are also keen to understand the past and future role of modellers, natural and social scientists in developing these models.

Participation in this survey is entirely voluntary. Any information you provide will be de-identified in any future publications.
