The COVID-19 pandemic is creating an unprecedented rise in mental health and substance use issues, leaving many asking how we can better support our friends and loved ones.

Aliive will offer Mental Health Training in our area to give people the resources to answer those questions. SWO Housing Authority sponsors the training, and it is provided at NO COST to anyone who would like to participate.

Mental Health First Aid is an international, evidence-based program that teaches people to identify, understand, and respond to signs and symptoms of mental health and substance use challenges. Adult Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) courses teach adult learners how to assist fellow adults, while Youth MHFA courses teach adult learners how to assist adolescents between the ages of 12 and 18. The training consists of a 2 hour self-paced online course, followed by one 4.5 hour class offered through Zoom. Please call Sara at 605-265-1467 with any questions.

QPR stands for Question, Persuade, and Refer — the 3 simple steps anyone can learn to help save a life from suicide.
Just as people trained in CPR and the Heimlich Maneuver help save thousands of lives each year, people trained in QPR learn how to recognize the warning signs of a suicide crisis and how to question, persuade, and refer someone to help. Each year thousands of Americans, like you, are saying "Yes" to saving the life of a friend, colleague, sibling, or neighbor. QPR can be learned in our Gatekeeper course in less than two hours.
