Thank you for your interest in participating in Global Youth Service Day 2016 activities!

Hanover will celebrate its 9th annual Global Youth Service Day on April 15th-17th, 2016. Global Youth Service Day is the largest service event in the world, mobilizing millions of youth volunteers to lead and participate in service projects.

While GYSD takes place over one service-packed weekend in April, it takes several months to plan. Youth volunteers are needed to serve on the GYSD Youth Leadership Corps and the GYSD Youth Planning Coalition.

The GYSD Youth Leadership Corps is for students ages 13-22 that want to develop leadership, project planning, marketing and communication skills through an interactive workshop. Participants will leave the workshop with a plan for their own GYSD project. The workshop will take place on December 12th, 2015 from 9:30am-12pm at the Department of Community Resources in Ashland.

The GYSD Youth Planning Coalition is for students ages 10-22 that want to plan and volunteer for the GYSD Kick-Off Party and Service Fair. Members will recruit other youth, area businesses, and local non-profits to get involved with GYSD and support projects. Members will meet guest speakers who have successfully led their own service projects and participate in meaningful service activities during meetings.

Meetings for the Youth Planning Coalition will take place in Ashland on January 11th, February 8th, and March 7th. We'll send you more detailed directions as we get closer to the meeting date. The Kick-Off will take place at Randolph-Macon College on March 19th, 2016.
