The Transport Workers’ Union has been contacted by members who regularly use the Geraldton–Mt Magnet Road to move freight, with increasing concerns about the deteriorating condition of the road.
Our members are reporting that the road is struggling to cope with the increasing volume and weight of freight travelling along this route.
With the wheat season approaching, we expect freight movements to increase further, placing additional pressure on the road and increasing the safety risks for transport workers and other road users.
We are seeking feedback from members about their experiences using the road, including the areas they consider most unsafe, the impact of road conditions on their work, near misses they may have experienced, and where additional passing lanes could improve safety.
Your feedback will help the TWU advocate for urgent road repairs, maintenance and safety improvements with Main Roads WA and the Minister for Transport.
If you have photographs or video footage of deteriorating road conditions, we would also welcome these as evidence. Please only take photographs or footage when it is safe to do so. NEVER use a phone or camera while operating a vehicle.
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. Your first-hand knowledge of this road is important in making the case for safer conditions for everyone who uses it.
