About the UK Government’s 10 Year Health Plan
The Department of Health and Social Care’s 10 Year Health Plan for England was released in June 2025 and sets out the priorities and direction for the NHS and broader health system over the next decade.
The plan focuses on three main shifts:
- From treatment to prevention
- From hospital to community
- From analogue to digital
Whilst the plan only specifically mentions suicide prevention twice, it potentially provides broader opportunities to further suicide prevention efforts.
Initiatives within the plan include neighbourhood health, an increased role of the NHS App and single patient records. There are also specific commitments around mental health including mental health emergency departments and self-referral to talking therapies through the NHS App.
What information is the survey seeking to gain?
We are keen to explore which aspects of the 10 Year Health Plan could benefit suicide prevention and understand if there are any specific considerations needed to ensure that their implementation maximises benefit for people at risk of or affected by suicide.
How will the survey results be shared and used?
The Suicide Prevention Consortium will use the anonymised survey findings to inform discussions with the VCSE Health and Wellbeing Alliance and system partners on the implementation of the 10 Year Health Plan.
Anonymised survey results will be collated into a short summary report and shared with survey participants (where email addresses are provided) for use in their work on the 10 Year Health Plan.
