Drug shortages are a clear and growing challenge across the United States. The unprecedented critical shortages of anticancer and supportive care medications since 2023 highlight the need for continued work to improve the US drug supply chain. Multiple surveys, such as those developed by the American Society of Health System Pharmacists (ASHP), and American Hospital Association (AHA), have characterized national shortages and their negative impact on patient care. However, there is limited national data on the frequency and patient care impact of drugs used in the care of patients with cancer.
This survey was developed and sponsored by the Hematology/Oncology Pharmacy Association (HOPA). The purpose of the survey is to characterize oncology drug shortages across the United States. For this survey, “drug shortage” refers to all drugs essential to the care of cancer patients, including anticancer, supportive care, and other agents used for cancer care. This survey will take approximately 15-30 minutes to complete, but it will yield valuable insights to address oncology drug shortages. The survey may be best completed by a small team, such as an oncology pharmacist, oncology nurse, purchasing staff, and others routinely involved in managing drug shortages. Please complete only one survey per practice site in the next 30 days.
Participation in this survey is voluntary and is open to anyone involved in the care of cancer patients.
Data will only be reported in aggregate, and survey results will be used to support HOPA’s advocacy efforts related to oncology drug shortages. By responding to this survey, you consent to having your data used in this manner. Thank you for your participation in this survey.
