United Way of Dane County Youth Volunteer Corps Interest Form

What is the Youth Volunteer Corps?
The Youth Volunteer Corps (YAVC) is a group of young people (ages 14-18) who are passionate about volunteerism and making an impact in their community. The YVC will work together to promote youth volunteerism all across Dane County. The YVC will participate in two large service events; Teen Gift Program in the winter and Global Youth Service Day in the spring. The YVC will take on the leadership role of planning, organizing and participating in these events.

What will I be doing as a YVC member?
YVC members will have different responsibilities based on their skills, interests and talents. All members will be responsible for promoting volunteerism at their school, organization or community center. All members will also work together to plan for and organize Teen Gift Drive and Global Youth Service Day. Some of the other responsibilities will include: updating and maintaining the Live United Youth facebook page, creating an interactive presentation about volunteering, presenting on youth volunteerism, creating marketing materials (posters, flyers, logos, videos) for service events and recruiting youth volunteers.

Why should I be a YVC member?
As a YVC member you will learn new skills, meet new people and become more involved in your community! Your experience as a YVC member will be valuable to include in college admissions essays or job applications. Time spent on the YVC can be used to fulfill community service requirements that you may have from your school or program. As a YVC member you will have the opportunity not only to participate in service events but you will take on the leadership role of planning, organizing and promoting them. (We also will have snacks at our meetings!)

What is the time commitment?
The YVC will meet once a month for two hours at United Way of Dane County. Members will also be asked to submit a short activity report once a month on facebook. More frequent meetings will be required for the planning of Global Youth Service Day and Teen Gift Drive. All members will be required to commit to one full school year and will be asked to recruit at least one new member upon leaving the YVC.

Where is YVC held?
All regular meetings will be held at United Way of Dane County, 2059 Atwood Ave. Madison, WI 53704. Service projects and other events will be held at various sites around Dane County.
