Feedback from community groups in Midlands on Just Transition and the National Just Transition Fund
The project coordinator has been selected to sit on Working Group 4 (community assistance / social enterprise interventions) of the Midlands Regional Transition Team and is seeking feedback from communities in the midlands on their experience of Just Transition thus far.
If you feel like you haven't had much of an experience with Just Transition, this is equally important feedback.
The Midlands Regional Transition Team (MRTT) was established in response to the acceleration of Bord na Mona’s decarbonisation programme and the closure of 21 active bogs and the two power stations in Offaly and Longford. In the first progress report Just Transition Commissioner Kieran Mulvey made key recommendations that called for restructuring of the MRTT, to reflect wider Midlands area and to establish working groups based on four key areas:
• Education & Training/Research
• Employment generation committee
• Employment Continuity Pathways
• Community Assistance Programme/ Social Enterprise Interventions

Note: 'Just Transition' refers to the policy that seeks to ensure social, economic, and environmental justice for communities affected by climate change policies. The 'National Just Transition Fund' is the mechanism that provides funding to enterprises, educational institutions, NGOs, local authorities, community groups, etc. to achieve Just Transition.
