Affordable Housing Access for Gender-based Violence Survivors & Youth in Barbados

Purpose of the Survey

The purpose of this survey is to gain insight into the experiences of gender-based violence (GBV) survivors and youth living in unsafe or toxic home environments in accessing safe and affordable housing in Barbados. The information gathered will be used to identify the barriers these groups face when trying to secure housing— whether through private rental or government housing programs — and to inform advocacy and policy recommendations aimed at improving access to housing for these vulnerable groups.

This survey is specifically intended for:
  • Survivors of gender-based violence (including domestic or intimate partner violence)
  • Youth (particularly those under 25) who have attempted to leave abusive or toxic living situations
The survey also seeks to understand how intersecting identities, such as; race, disability, LGBTQIA+ identity, migrant status, etc. may affect a person’s ability to access safe, affordable housing. The data collected will support ongoing advocacy to make national housing systems more inclusive, survivor-centered, and responsive to the needs of marginalized communities.

This survey is being conducted by Life In Leggings: Caribbean Alliance Against Gender-Based Violence and is anonymous. Participation is voluntary, and no personal identifying information will be shared without explicit consent.
