Consultation on One Africa Common Position on TB
TB kills and remains a global health problem and the world’s top infectious killer. TB thrives in conditions of structural inequality, social inequity, disempowerment, rights violations, and conflict, render communities susceptible to TB and impact access to diagnosis, treatment and care which is common in Africa. Social determinant including Human rights violations, lack of information and demand creation continue to be a barrier to accessing TB services. In Africa, vulnerable and underserved populations in TB are at increased risk for TB due to where they live or work, have limited access to quality services and legal services and most importantly information and communication. Ending the TB epidemic by 2030 is among the health targets in the SDGs, Deadly Divide TB Accountability Report, the Global Plan to End TB 2023-2030 and WHO End TB Strategy.
