The Youth Activities Committee (YAC) is supervised by the City of Montclair Human Services Department for the benefit of the community. We are looking for creative leaders in middle or high school who want to represent their peers and promote youth-oriented programs and activities as part of the Youth Activities Committee.

For your application to be considered, please follow these steps:
  • Review the Youth Activities Committee Program Description and complete the Application with your parent/guardian (both included in this packet). Be sure you include the appropriate signatures.
  • Submit the completed application by Friday, April 24, 2026, online or via hard copy at the Recreation Center customer service desk (open 7:30 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.), 5111 Benito Street, Montclair, CA, 91763.
  • A Teacher Recommendation Form must be completed by a current or former teacher. Teacher Recommendations must also be received by Friday, April 24, 2026 online via this link: bit.ly/MontclairYAC

Youth Activities Committee (YAC) Program Description 2026 - 2027

Purpose:
To provide positive leadership, recreational, educational, and social opportunities to youth during non-school hours. Youth Activities Committee members will participate in variety of community services projects as well as assist in planning and implementing city sponsored events.

Mission Statement: The Mission of the Montclair Youth Activities Committee is to represent the needs of the youth of Montclair with members who reflect the diversity of the community and by adding a youth voice to Montclair and accomplishing goals that help support Montclair youth in their community.

Benefits: YAC members will not only develop leadership skills through activities and events but also gain a sense of accomplishment by participating in educational, recreational, and social opportunities. Additionally, YAC members will have the opportunity to meet new people outside of their school. Other benefits include meeting and serving the residents of the Montclair community at different special events. (These community service hours can be used for high school and/or college applications.)

Requirements:
Must be a Montclair resident or attend school in Montclair and be between 12-18 years of age and in 7th - 12th grade. YAC members must be in academic good standing with at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA. Report cards will be required twice annually. All YAC members are required to attend a monthly meeting, one service project event per month, and commit to volunteering a minimum of twenty (20) hours at City of Montclair’s special events and/or other nonprofit programs during their time on the YAC committee. YAC members are expected to actively participate and contribute during all meeting and assigned programs. YAC members are expected to spend at least 40 hours per year on YAC activities.

Duties:
Duties may include, but are not limited to, meet, plan, and assist with events, participate in volunteering for City programs and special events. Specific role requirements are outlined on the membership position form.

Membership:

The committee shall consist of five (5) members. Committee membership expires once you graduate from High School. Committee memberships terms shall be a minimum of two (2) school years (one year if term begins in 12th grade) beginning March of the year appointed and term shall expire the following May. Committee memberships are appointed by the Human Services Department.
