The $1,000 Maurice Herndon Scholarship will be presented to one Young Agent who has not attended a National Legislative Conference in the past to help defray the costs of attending the Big ‘I’ Legislative Conference. The recipient will receive the scholarship payment after the event.

This scholarship was established in 2003 to honor Maurice Herndon who was named head of the Big ‘I’ National’s Washington, D.C. office in 1949. He coordinated the Big “I” state associations and built the government affairs and grassroots operations via his extensive travel, education, passion, and hard work. His impact on the industry is immeasurable and he will be remembered by the Big “I” family as a true legend.


To be eligible, you must:
1. Be a Young Agent member (40 years of age or younger) of the Big “I” who has not previously attended a Big “I” Legislative Conference.

2. Write and submit a 250 to 500-word narrative describing why you should be considered for the scholarship. Include details on your state legislative involvement, your volunteer roles, and any other relevant experience. Your essay may be published on independentagent.com and you may be asked to participate in public relations and video opportunities.

3. Submit your completed application form and by March 24, 2023. Please note: You must submit your application in one sitting! You will not be able to save your responses and return at a later time.
