Severe Complications in Urology: Impact on Clinicians and Support Strategies

Introduction

Thank you for participating in this survey on “Severe Complications in Urology: Impact on Clinicians and Support Strategies.

The aim of this study is to gain a better understanding of how urologists cope with the second victim phenomenon and what forms of support they would find most helpful.

The second victim phenomenon refers to the psychological distress that healthcare professionals may experience after being involved in an unexpected adverse event, a major complication, or a medical error. Affected individuals often develop stress reactions such as feelings of guilt, anxiety, or self-doubt, which can impact both their professional performance and personal well-being. This phenomenon may affect colleagues working in hospitals as well as those in private practice.

The survey was initiated by ERUS and EAU YUO, but it is explicitly intended for all urologists. Our goal is to obtain a realistic picture of the experiences and needs within our specialty. The findings will help guide the development of support programs and further strengthen the culture of safety in urology.

The questionnaire consists of several thematic sections with approximately 23 main questions and additional sub-questions. The time required depends on how extensively you choose to answer the free-text fields (approximately 10 minutes). Please take as much time as you need.

The survey is completely anonymous. No personal data allowing conclusions about your identity or institution will be collected. Your responses will be evaluated exclusively for scientific purposes. By completing the questionnaire, you consent to the anonymous processing of the results.

Thank you very much for your support,
