Royal Gorge Region Parks and Open Space Accessibility Survey

Help us understand accessibility needs for our parks and open spaces

The Canon City Disability Advocates in partnership with the Cañon City Area Recreation and Park District, the City of Cañon City, and Fremont County want to better understand barriers for accessing local parks and open spaces and potential solutions for increasing access to our regions outstanding parks and open spaces for those that are not currently able to access them. This survey is to help community partners understand level of interest in improved accessibility and understanding current limitations for you and/or your friends and family.


1.Do you or someone you know that lives in or frequently visits Fremont County has a disability or other physical limitation that limits their ability to access the regions parks and open spaces?
2.Does this person have an interest in visiting the regions parks and open spaces if certain barriers were addressed?
3.What are the barriers that limit this person's ability to access the regions parks and open spaces?
4.On question 3, if you answered that structures were limiting you or the person you know's ability to access parks and open spaces please describe the area or issue.
5.If you answered that you were unfamiliar with local parks and open spaces level of accessibility as a deterrent for visiting, how would you recommend this type of information be provided? Where should this be provided?
6.Various areas in Colorado offer Track Chairs or Terrain Hoppers to aid people in accessing parks and open spaces. Are you familiar with these programs and these types of devices?

7.After learning more about these programs how likely would you/the person you know participate in a program if one was offered in the Royal Gorge Region?

10.If a track chair program was available in the region would you be willing to pay for this service if it was a relatively low amount to help maintain the program?
