Share Your Voice—Help us Help You

Dear Maryland Resident,

We invite you to take a short survey from the Maryland Biofuels Task Force to help shape the future of fuels in our state. In just a few minutes, you can share your thoughts and help make Maryland’s transportation cleaner, more affordable, and healthier for everyone.

Why participate?
  • Impact Local Decisions: Your feedback will directly guide Maryland's strategies for making fuels more affordable, reducing pollution, and improving public health.
  • Make Your Voice Heard: As a driver, commuter, or community member, your experiences and opinions matter.
  • Support a Healthier Maryland: By participating, you help the Task Force understand what Marylanders know and want to learn more about.
About the Task Force
The Maryland Biofuels Task Force brings together experts from over 40 organizations to find practical ways to improve our fuels, air, economy, and public health.

About the Survey
This survey aims to help consumers understand the economic impact of transportation fuels and the potential benefits of biofuels. We need to understand your knowledge of biofuels, your concerns, and your ideas for introducing clean, cost-effective fuel options to every Maryland community.

After the survey, we’ll share the results and our final recommendations with the public.

On behalf of the Maryland Biofuels Task Force, thank you for helping build a cleaner, healthier Maryland!

* 1. Economic Security: Increasing E10 to E15 can save Maryland consumers $250 million to $750 million annually (10–30 cents per gallon).

Question Title

* 2. Economic Security: Nationwide, switching to E15 could save consumers over $20 billion annually.

Question Title

* 3. Economic Security: Biodiesel could reduce diesel fuel prices by 4% ($104.7 million annually) in Maryland.

Question Title

* 4. Economic Security: The ethanol industry’s large production capacity acts as a deterrent to market manipulation, helping provide price stability and indirect consumer savings.

Question Title

* 5. Economic Security: A statewide transition to 15% ethanol and 6% biodiesel could generate over $4.68 billion in total economic activity benefits for Maryland, including substantial consumer fuel savings.

Question Title

* 6. Economic Security: Biofuel plants can increase local farmland values by about 4% per 100 million gallons of plant capacity, helping stabilize the agricultural economy.

Question Title

* 7. Economic Security: Biodiesel industry investment generates $23 billion in economic activity nationally, supporting jobs and local economies.

Question Title

* 8. Economic Security: Ethanol production nationally contributes $55 billion to GDP, $10 billion to federal/state/local budgets, and $32 billion to household income.

Question Title

* 9. Economic Security: Fuel savings from biofuels provide consumers with economic relief as Maryland faces increased state budgets.

Question Title

* 10. Energy Security: Maryland is entirely dependent on liquid fuel imports, with no in-state oil production or refinery capacity.

Question Title

* 11. Energy Security: Events like the 2021 Colonial Pipeline cyberattack led to gasoline shortages and local price spikes, revealing supply chain vulnerabilities.

Question Title

* 12. Energy Security: Increasing biofuel production strengthens local energy resilience and reduces vulnerability to global oil price shocks and supply disruptions.

Question Title

* 13. Energy Security: The ethanol industry’s production capacity is twice that of the U.S. Strategic Petroleum Reserve, serving as a buffer for fuel supply emergencies.

Question Title

* 14. Energy Security: Reliance on external crude oil exposes Maryland to long-lasting economic consequences due to global instability and price fluctuations.

Question Title

* 15. Energy Security: Biofuel demand supports market stability, contributing to reliable prices and supply for Maryland consumers.

Question Title

* 16. Environmental Security: Increasing ethanol from E10 to E15 and biodiesel content to 20% could reduce 3.2 million metric tons of carbon emissions annually in Maryland.

Question Title

* 17. Environmental Security: This annual reduction is equivalent to offsetting emissions from nearly 780,000 electric vehicles or preserving 21,000 acres of forests.

Question Title

* 18. Environmental Security: Cleaner air from reduced PM2.5 and NOx emissions can yield billions in healthcare cost savings (for example, California’s Low Carbon Fuel Standard is projected to save $8.3 billion in pollution-related health costs by 2025 – reducing asthma attacks, heart attacks, and premature deaths.)

Question Title

* 19. Environmental Security: Ethanol use reduces carbon emissions by about 50% compared to gasoline.

Question Title

* 20. Environmental Security:Biofuel expansion presents a near-term strategy for helping Maryland meet its climate goals and close the emissions gap, despite not being eligible under the state’s climate reduction plan.

Question Title

* 21. Environmental Security: Economic benefits of biofuels include valuation of ecosystem services and avoided costs from land degradation and climate change impacts, and lower insurance costs for consumers.

Question Title

* 22. Personal Security: Reduced air pollution from biofuels leads to statistically significant declines in particulate matter, carbon monoxide, and hydrocarbons – fewer respiratory and cardiovascular ailments, representing significant public health and economic savings.

Question Title

* 23. Personal Security: Biofuel blends displace carcinogenic compounds such as benzene, reducing cancer risk and burden on healthcare systems.

Question Title

* 24. Personal Security: Reduced air pollution from biofuels leads to statistically significant declines in particulate matter, carbon monoxide, and hydrocarbons – fewer respiratory and cardiovascular ailments, representing significant public health and economic savings.

Question Title

* 25. Personal Security: Reduced air pollution from biofuels leads to statistically significant declines in particulate matter, carbon monoxide, and hydrocarbons – fewer respiratory and cardiovascular ailments, representing significant public health and economic savings.
