INVITATION TO PARTICIPATEYou are being invited to participate in a research study examining the relationship between organizational resource environments and workplace integrated safety and health program effectiveness among electrical utility workers. This study is being conducted to better understand how organizational resources influence safety program outcomes in one of America's most hazardous professions.
RESEARCH STATEMENT AND VOLUNTARY PARTICIPATIONThis is a research study examining organizational resource availability and integrated safety and health program effectiveness among IBEW-credentialed Journeyman Linemen. Your participation is completely voluntary, and you may withdraw at any time without penalty or consequence to your employment status, union membership, or relationship with your employer or the research institution.
PURPOSE AND DURATIONThe purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between organizational resource environments, as conceptualized through Conservation of Resources (COR) Theory, and Workplace Integrated Safety and Health (WISH) program effectiveness among journeyman linemen in the United States. The survey takes approximately 30-35 minutes to complete, and your participation involves a single online survey session.
PROCEDURESIf you agree to participate, you will complete an online survey containing questions about:
- Organizational resources available in your workplace (equipment, support systems, training, working conditions)
- Your organization's approach to integrated safety and health programs
- Demographic and organizational characteristics
- Optional open-ended feedback about your experiences
The survey includes the Conservation of Resources Evaluation (COR-E) scale adapted for organizational contexts and the Workplace Integrated Safety and Health (WISH) Assessment. You may skip any questions you prefer not to answer without penalty.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIATo participate in this study, you must:
- Be currently employed as a Journeyman Lineman
- Hold active IBEW membership with journeyman classification
- Have at least five (5) years of experience as a journeyman lineman in field operations
- Be employed by a U.S. utility company, municipal utility, rural cooperative, or electrical contractor
- Be at least 18 years of age
RISKS AND DISCOMFORTSThe risks associated with this study are minimal and are not greater than those encountered in daily life. Potential risks include:
- Mild discomfort when answering questions about workplace resources, organizational support, or safety program effectiveness
- Temporary emotional discomfort when reflecting on work-related challenges or resource limitations
- No physical risks are associated with participation
