Membership Dues Survey #2

Background
As the Forum continues its transition to a self-supporting incorporated entity, it is essential that the participation structure and membership dues meet the expectations and needs of the membership.

This is the second membership dues survey. The input and feedback from the first survey helped us to significantly refine the proposed Forum structure. We appreciate your feedback on this updated  proposal to help us build a Forum that will continue to provide value to your organization!

The Role of the Forum
To justify membership dues the Forum must provide value to its members. The Metaverse Standards Forum provides a unique venue for cooperation between standards organizations and the wider industry to foster the development of interoperability standards for an open and inclusive metaverse.

The broad global membership of the Forum provides a unique opportunity for members to accelerate their own missions through: a) gathering comprehensive industry requirements and insights on metaverse standardization, b) leveraging the deep and diverse expertise in Forum Working Groups, and c) benefitting from the visibility of Forum initiatives and recommendations worldwide. Forum members have the opportunity to demonstrate industry leadership through proposing, leading, and publicizing Forum activities in domains that can significantly benefit their own organizations and the industry as a whole.

The Forum has already established a strong pipeline of Domain Groups working on projects such as 3D asset interoperability, building a public database to map the landscape of metaverse-related standardization activities, and defining constructs to describe and integrate the physical world and created (digital) representations, with many more proposed working groups coming soon.

New Proposed Forum Structure
The new proposed Forum structure will continue to have two classes of membership. Participant membership will continue to be FREE and open to any organization, and provides access to all Domain Group projects and activities hosted by the Forum.

Principal membership is available to any organization that pays membership dues that scales according to number of employees, with reduced or even waived fees for standards organizations. Principals benefit from taking a leadership role in the Forum, including continued participation in the Oversight Committee and the ability to elect and become Board members.

The Forum is also proposing an elected Advisory Panel for which any Standards Setting Organization (SSO) can stand for election for non-voting Board meeting participation.

We are aiming to incorporate the Forum in March 2023. In the nine months following incorporation, the Forum proposes rolling elections to enable initial Principals to form an interim Board, before the first annual Board elections around the end of 2023.
